The superstar, who is also humanitarian, green crusader and former Miss World, is a multifaceted personality and one of the most recognized and lauded talents in Indian cinema. She devotes considerable time to international humanitarian causes, including her role as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
Her father, Ashok Chopra, M.D., a renowned plastic surgeon in India, has been treated for several years at URMC for a liver illness. In the course of his treatment, Priyanka Chopra learned of URMC’s Solid Organ Transplant Program and recently pledged to be an organ donor. Priyanka Chopra uses her celebrity status to promote the enormous impact of and need for organ donation. “A simple way to look at this is to put yourself in that position,” she said. “If someone you loved needed an organ transplant to save his or her life, wouldn’t you wish that there was someone, who was there to donate one? I realized the value of organ donation as my father came close to needing one recently. By pledging to donate an organ, you can actually save someone’s life. Take the pledge, make a difference, save a life.” While the goal of the event is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation, funds raised through the gala will be used for patient care, advocacy, research and education. Seymour I. Schwartz, M.D., Distinguished Alumni Professor of Surgery, who is widely known for his significant impact on hepatobiliary (liver) surgery and his contributions to the surgical literature, will be honored at the gala. URMC transplant surgeon Christopher Barry, M.D., Ph.D. associate professor of Surgery, is gala chair. Parul Patel, M. Sc. Biotech, is co-chair, and Anil K. Sharma, M.D., clinical associate professor of medicine, is honorary co-chair. URMC’s transplant team includes four surgeons, who serve patients from across New York and northern Pennsylvania in need of kidney, pancreas and liver transplants. In addition, two surgeons attend to patients undergoing heart transplants. Locally, more than 900 patients are waiting for a liver, kidney, heart or pancreas transplant. Hundreds of others in the area will be helped this year by tissue transplants such as cornea, bone, tendon, ligaments and heart valves. “We are thrilled to host Priyanka Chopra as we celebrate the transplant program’s achievements,” Barry said. “Through our Bollywood theme, we also pay tribute to the many outstanding local Indian physicians, who help make this community so medically robust and respected. We’re very grateful to the Chopra family for their support.” Tickets for the event are $175. For an additional cost, guests may attend a VIP reception with Priyanka Chopra before the gala. This hot stunning girl shared her life journey experiences with the students.
In an inspiring speech at the India Today Mind Rocks Youth Summit, the 30-year-old actress took an exulting crowd of hundreds of students through her life’s journey from being “gawky kid” to a Bollywood star. “I was living in Bareily, from there I went straight to Boston and joined school there. I didn’t know how to fit in. Also, I faced some racial issues. Some girls called me ‘browny’ and I was typecast, pointed a finger at for being Indian,” Priyanka said. The bullying ensued into a fight and Priyanka was suspended from school for three days. But the actress said going to school in America was a huge lesson in life as it taught her to be more confident. Delivering a speech on perfection, Priyanka said she is not perfect and it’s okay to be flawed as “long as you are being yourself. “My life was an epitome of imperfection. I’m not perfect like Aishwarya Rai, beautiful, stunning. I was a gawky kid, only thing I knew was to work hard and learn. I didn’t know how to act or win a beauty pageant. My career has been instinctive, but every situation taught me something.” The former Miss World also said that life is all about taking chances and it’s not worth living if there are no risks involved. “Today I have the courage to do a commercial, mainstream film like ‘Barfi!’, when half of India doesn’t even know what autism is. But I have the courage to take that chance.” Priyanka is playing an autistic girl in movie Barfi. This movie is set to release on September 14. Until now, everyone was led to believe that Priyanka Chopra’s first single, In My City — from her maiden international album — would be launched on American channel NFL Network’s event, Thursday Night Football on September 13. But now, the news is that the actor has decided to launch the number for her Indian fans before American audiences get to see it. “In My City will be launched in India about 12 hours before it opens during NFL. Priyanka wanted the song to be heard in India first for her fans here. Later, the NFL launch will happen during the pre-game show for Thursday Night Football,” says a source. When contacted, the actor’s spokesperson says, “Priyanka has always been very clear that India would hear her music first. So all plans have been worked out to ensure that. She will be in India for the launch when the song and special video will air during the TV telecast of NFL.”The song also features international artiste Will.i.am (from the band Black Eyed Peas). Global pop star Lady Gaga’s producer RedOne has produced the album. The release of the full song and accompanying video for ‘In my city’ are expected later this year. For now, Priyanka is just happy to have her desi fans hear the first track: “It had to be launched here (in India) first. It couldn’t have been any other way,” says Priyanka. The venue and other details for the launch are still being worked upon. Source: HindustanTimes By: Priyanka Chopra Online While Priyanka Chopra is all geared up for the release of Barfi!, one of the actress' films has been lying in the cans for quite some time. Her movie Deewana Main Deewana (DMD) which was shot some four years back, is all set to hit the theatres.
There were rumours doing the rounds that producer-director of the film, KC Bokadia, was planning to release the film along with Barfi! However, Bokadia denies the reports and says, "I am not releasing the movie with Barfi! because it also stars Priyanka and therefore, releasing it on the same date makes zero sense. But if all goes well, I will release the movie with Shirish Kunder's Joker." DMD stars Govinda opposite PC. "The movie got completed six months before and I am releasing it now because I wasn't getting any buyer for the movie. Plus, Govinda ka market theek nahi hain abhi but after waiting for few months, I have finally decided to start the promotions of the movie and if I don't get a buyer, I will release the movie myself. Also, there are some 5-6 movies of Govinda by different directors which are complete but waiting for release." In retrospect, Bokadia says, "There were no buyers for my Mithun starrer movie Pyaar Jhukta Nahi and I released the movie myself and you won't believe, the movie was a hit and it ran for 50 weeks." Bokadia is confident of getting the junta to watch his movie. "In a time when movies that have sexual connotations and the villain is seen hurling a string of expletives are doing well at the BO, I know it is difficult for a family entertainer to sustain in the market, but I feel that Hindustan mein achhi movies dekhne ki audience hai," says Bokadia. Ask him if it will it be easy to engage Priyanka and Govinda for the promotion of the movie and he says, "I have an amazing rapport with both the actors and Priyanka called me to say that she is ready to go the extra mile to promote the movie."
