BHUBANESWAR: The portrayal of differently-abled characters by Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in 'Barfi' has been well received by autistic children living in the city. On Monday, 65 autistic children of Open Learning System (OLS), a voluntary organization, went to watch Anurag Basu's recent release.
They sat glued to their seats enjoying Ranbir acting as a deaf-and-dumb youth and Priyanka depicting an autistic woman. "Both Ranbir and Priyanka have done a brilliant job. Priyanka has beautifully depicted autism," said Asima Aishwarya, an autistic child.
OLS's principal Manjushree Patnaik said the movie motivated the children, suffering from physical, mental and cerebral disorders. "Besides entertaining them, the movie instilled a sense of optimism among the children. They should not feel discouraged by their deformities," Patnaik said. The children had earlier watched movies revolving around the lives of children and the physically-handicapped.
